Jason Rothenberg (born May 10, 1967 in Detroit , Michigan ) is an American screenwriter who became internationally known as the showrunner of the American science fiction television series The 100 .

life and career

Jason Rothenberg was born in Detroit , Michigan , and studied communications at the University of Wisconsin-Madison before moving to Hollywood in the early 1990s. There he worked as a film assistant and screenwriter. Rothenberg and producer Jon Peters sold his first spec script, Alias , to The WB for one million US dollars . In 1997 he adapted Mary Doria Russell's science fiction novel Sparrow . In the early 2000s, Rothenberg was a busy screenwriter, writing various rewrites of scripts and selling several scripts, including some in the mid six-figure range, but these were never made into films. Starting in 2005, Rothenberg developed The Body Politic for The WB , a one-hour drama series set in Washington, DC . The pilot was filmed in 2009, but the project did not go into series.

Based on the novel series The 100 by Kass Morgan , Rothenberg developed a pilot script for the US television station The CW while Morgan was writing the first novel . The broadcaster ordered the pilot for The 100 in 2013 and has been broadcasting the science fiction television series run by Rothenberg as a showrunner with Eliza Taylor in the lead role since 2014 . A seventh and final season of the television series has now been ordered.

In 2017 Rothenberg worked with Greg Berlanti for The CW on a pilot called Searchers , but ultimately the project did not go into series.
