World Cup fountain

The World Cup fountain is a landmark in Seoul , South Korea . It was built near the Seoul World Cup Stadium in preparation for and in memory of the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea . The fountain is located in the Hangang River and sends a jet of water up to a height of 202 m, which should refer to 2002, the year of the World Cup.

The fountain was first put into operation in October 2001 and has been in operation for several hours a day since 2002, weather permitting.

After the King Fahd's Fountain , the World Cup fountain is the second highest in the world and the highest that is operated with fresh water .
