22-Pistepirkko is a Finnish rock - pop group that was founded in 1980 . Her name 22-Pistepirkko is Finnish and means 22-point ladybug in German . 22-Pistepirkko now produce their albums in English , but the first album was recorded in their own language.

history

The band consists of the brothers Asko (bass, keyboard) and PK Keränen (guitar, vocals) and their friend Espe Haverinen (drums, vocals). It started as a punk band in Utajärvi , a northern Finnish village, under the name "Matti Mätä & SS". In 1982 the band won the Championship of Rock competition in Finland and recorded their first EP in 1983 . The first LP Piano, rumpu ja kukka (in German: piano, drum and flower ) was completed in 1984 and is heavily influenced by 22-Pistepirkko's former model band The Velvet Underground .

They celebrated their first successes with their first English-language album The Kings Of Hong Kong , which Riku Mattila produced. Two years later they made their international breakthrough with Bare Bone Nest . The album is very bluesy and also uses influences from country music . Among other things, they played at the Roskilde Festival and the Transmusicales Festival in Rennes, France .

Big Lupu was released in 1992 . Due to the larger budget and the addition of studio musicians, the album turned out to be very experimental. Birdy and Don't Say I'm So Evil were released as singles and were sales successes.

Rumble City, Lala Land (1995) integrated elements from electronic music and hip-hop . In 1997 Zipcode was released , a remix album on which several artists took on their pieces. The chosen path was continued on Eleven . The album contains numerous samples and loops and moves more and more away from the original direction of the band. Eleven (1998) also reached number 4 in the German alternative charts. The song Onion Soup was another international success for the band.

In 1999, 22-Pistepirkko took part in the soundtrack for the film Downhill City . The band then provided a cross-section of their career. So the soundtrack contains both rock and electronic sounds. The follow-up album to Eleven was released in 2001 under the name Rally of Love and is created almost entirely with a sequencer . 22-Pistepirkko goes on a two-year tour after publication. Then the band decided to take a longer creative break. Stopping or continuing was an issue. It went on.

During this time they mainly played cover versions under the name “The Others”, but also used the band to test “22 Pistepirkko” songs. With this project, the members of the band also recorded an album called Monochromeset , released in 2006 , which only contains cover songs.

According to information on their homepage, 18 songs were created by 2005. These were produced by Kalle Gustafsson, bassist for The Soundtrack Of Our Lives . Fifteen of the tracks were released as an album under the name Drops & Kicks . The electronic elements were slimmed down and the album sounded rockier again overall.

The song Birdy later became one of the hits of the Finnish humppaband Eläkeläiset (as a cover version with the title Pöpi ) .

The sound tinkerers had their own recording studio "Bare Bone Studios" since the 1990s. In the mid-2000s, they also founded their own label "Bone Voyage Recording Company".

At the Crossroads Festival in October 2011, an almost one-hour performance of the 22-PP for the WDr- Rockpalast was recorded and put online for posterity.
