Bloody Mary - A woman with bite ( Innocent Blood , A French Vampire in America ) is an American horror comedy by John Landis from the year 1992 .
action
The Pittsburgh policeman Joe Gennaro is undercover investigating the mobster Sallie Macelli. He witnesses Macelli killing an accomplice.
For ethical reasons, the vampire Marie only kills criminals in order to feed herself. Then she destroys the central nervous system with a headshot so that her victims do not become undead. This is how she deals with a Mafioso whom Gennaro got to know well during his time as an undercover agent. The coroner draws the police's attention to the fact that the body is missing several liters of blood. Prosecutor Sinclair allows the press to photograph her at the scene with Gennaro. In this way, she wants to prevent Gennaro from returning to - in her opinion too dangerous - work as an undercover agent.
When Marie wants to drink Macelli's blood, she is disturbed. Macelli wakes up in the morgue and escapes as an undead who turns other people into undead.
Gennaro suspects Marie to be the perpetrator in several murders. When he meets her in a church, he convinces himself that she has supernatural powers. He later meets her again and wants his colleagues to arrest her. However, the other police officers do not believe that smiling Marie is dangerous.
Gennaro helps Marie neutralize Macelli. Marie then wants to commit suicide by exposing herself to the light of the rising sun. She renounces it when Gennaro reveals that he loves her.
Reviews
Roger Ebert criticized in the Chicago Sun-Times of September 25, 1992 the "marriage" of the vampire films and the mafia films , which "does not work". The film lacks a “clear idea”. The character of the "lonely" Marie is "interesting".
"Just a tolerably entertaining horror comedy that tries to cover up the missing line and unity with an abundance of (own) quotes, guest appearances and special effects."
“John Landis spiced up his homage to the classic vampire film with insane situation comedy. Conclusion: absurd, dark fun with comic gags. "
