Skogsøya is an island in the Norwegian municipality of Øksnes in Fylke Nordland and is part of the Vesterålen region . The island is located west of the northern tip of Langøya and is the largest of the four large islands of the so-called Øksnes Vestbygd (west bay) off Dyrøya , Nærøya and Tindsøya .

The village of Øksnes in the south of Skogøya used to be the center of the municipality and in 1930 had 600 inhabitants. Today's administrative center is in Myre, opposite to the east . With the expansion of the road and communication network, more and more long-time residents have left this small island world and found the connection to the “new era” in the newly created Myre. But the name of the old congregation came across as well.

The Øksnes Provostry has also kept the name, whose 300-year-old cruciform church " Øksnes kirke ", lying romantically in a natural harbor, is still the flagship of the parish. Skogsøya has a ferry connection to the other islands in the west bay and has a 6 km network of trails from Øksnes to Tunnstad and Breidstrand.

The island world is among other things a tip for sailors and canoeists. Every year kayak competitions take place here. A special highlight for the region was the stranding of the discarded Soviet destroyer Boiki on November 12, 1988. It was supposed to be towed from Murmansk to Spain to be scrapped, but ran aground in front of the town of Hjellsand. The wreck stayed there until 2001, but has always been a tourist attraction during that time.
