Steve Smith (* 4. April 1963 in Trenton , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player , who during his playing career from 1980 to 1993 included 18 games for the Philadelphia Flyers and Buffalo Sabers in the National Hockey League on the position of the defender denied Has.

Career

Smith played for Sault Ste. During his junior years between 1980 and 1983 . Marie Greyhounds had an outstanding junior career. In each of the three years in the league he was elected to the Second All-Star Team of the league and already selected in the first round of the 1981 NHL Entry Draft in 16th position by the Philadelphia Flyers .

In the course of the 1982/83 season , the Flyers had introduced their draft pick to the professional sector before it took hold there in the summer of 1984. Over the next five years, however, the defender failed to establish himself in the NHL. In addition to the eight games played in the 1982/83 season, there were only seven more matches. The Canadian played primarily for the Flyers' farm teams in the American Hockey League . With the Hershey Bears he won the Calder Cup in the 1987/88 season . About the NHL Waiver Draft Smith moved to the Buffalo Sabers in October 1988 , but even there he was mostly active for the Rochester Americans in the AHL until 1991 and ran in only three NHL games for the Sabers.

After his contract expired, Smith moved to Europe in the summer of 1991 and played for one year in Austria for EK Zell am See . Smith spent the 1992/93 season as a player-coach at EV Bruneck in Italy .
