Sean James Pronger (born November 30, 1972 in Thunder Bay , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player , who during his active career for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim , Pittsburgh Penguins , New York Rangers , Los Angeles Kings , Boston Bruins , Columbus Blue Jackets and Vancouver Canucks were active in the National Hockey League . His brother Chris is also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Sean Pronger first played from 1988 to 1989 for the Kenora Boise in a lower class Canadian junior league. The striker then spent a season with the Thunder Bay Flyers from the United States Hockey League . Pronger began studying at the Bowling Green State University and went to 1994 for their ice hockey team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association on the ice. During this time, the Canadian was selected in the third round of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft at position 51 by the Vancouver Canucks . After completing his studies, Pronger was primarily active in his first professional season in the East Coast Hockey League and was on the ice for the Knoxville Cherokees and Greensboro Monarchs . Since the Vancouver Canucks had not signed him within the three-year period following the 1991 NHL Entry Draft, the striker was available as a free agent and entitled to negotiate with all NHL teams without restriction. In February 1995 he accepted a contract offer from the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim . The attacker spent the rest of the season on the farm team with the San Diego Gulls in the International Hockey League .

During the 1995/96 season he gained his first experience in the NHL and ran in seven encounters for the Mighty Ducks on the ice, with the center booked one assist. The Canadian played most of the season with the Baltimore Bandits in the American Hockey League . The following season, Pronger received significantly more Ice Age in the Mighty Ducks jersey and scored 14 points in 39 regular season games. In the playoffs he failed with the Californians in the second round against the Detroit Red Wings . In the 1997/98 season he seemed to get stuck in Anaheim and was used in 62 NHL games, in which he reached 20 points. In March 1998, however, they transferred him to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for goalkeeper Patrick Lalime . For the Penguins Pronger completed twelve NHL games with one goal before the management gave him in November 1998 in a five-player barter deal together with Petr Nedvěd and Chris Tamer to the New York Rangers . In exchange, Alexei Kowaljow and Harry York moved to Pittsburgh. The season 1998/99 ended the left shooter with the Los Angeles Kings . As a free agent, he signed a contract with the Boston Bruins in August 1999 .

He was mainly used in the farm team with the Providence Bruins and in March 2000 a transfer followed within the American Hockey League to the Manitoba Moose , with the Boston Bruins retaining the NHL rights to Pronger. Before the end of 2000, the Bruins gave his rights to the New York Islanders . Pronger, who continued to play the season with the Manitoba Moose, was put on the waiver list by the Islanders in May 2001 , from which the Columbus Blue Jackets selected him. During the 2002/03 season, he sat in Columbus as a regular player and brought it to a career record of 78 NHL games in the regular season. Shortly after the start of the following season, the striker was transferred to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for Zenith Komarniski . Except for three missions in the NHL, he found himself on the farm team with the Manitoba Moose. For the 2004/05 season Pronger was signed by the Frankfurt Lions from the German Ice Hockey League . He then decided to end his active career.
