Patrick Lalime (born July 7, 1974 in Saint-Bonaventure , Québec ) is a former Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper . During his active career between 1996 and 2011 he played 485 games for the Pittsburgh Penguins , Ottawa Senators , St. Louis Blues , Chicago Blackhawks , Buffalo Sabers in the National Hockey League .

Career

Patrick Lalime was selected by the officials of the Pittsburgh Penguins during the NHL Entry Draft 1993 in the sixth round in a total of 156th position. From 1994 he played with the then farm team of the Penguins, the Cleveland Lumberjacks in the lower class International Hockey League , after he had played in the junior division for the Cataractes de Shawinigan in the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec . In the 1996/97 season he came to the National Hockey League for the first time and played 39 games as a back-up goalie behind Ken Wregget . The following season he was only used in the IHL, this time for the Grand Rapids Griffins .

In March 1998 he was transferred to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim within the NHL , but was only used in the Ducks farm team, the Kansas City Blades in the IHL. In the summer of 1999, Lalime was transferred to the Ottawa Senators and was finally back in the NHL. In his first season still as number 2, he was able to prevail as a regular goalkeeper from the second season. He had this status for four years.

In the summer of 2004 he was transferred to the St. Louis Blues and he signed a one-year contract there. Due to the lockout , the season in the NHL was canceled. Before the 2005/06 season , St. Louis extended Lalime for a year, but could not establish itself as number 1.

After the season, the Blues did not renew the contract and Patrick Lalime signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks . In September 2006 he had to undergo an operation on his back and only made his comeback on February 7, 2007, when he immediately managed a shutout in the game against the Vancouver Canucks . The Blackhawks still clearly missed the playoffs. In April 2007, the Blackhawks extended his contract for one year to summer 2008. On July 1, 2008, he signed a contract with the Buffalo Sabers . In the 2008/09 season he came to 24 missions for the Sabers and managed a catch rate of 90 percent. A season later he was in 16 games for Buffalo in action and held 90.7 percent of the shots. In the 2009/10 season he also had two missions for the Portland Pirates in the AHL and achieved a catch rate of 91.4 percent.

Lalime announced his retirement in July 2011 after the 2010/11 season . In his last season he made seven appearances, but over the course of the season he was increasingly losing out to the second substitute goalkeeper Jhonas Enroth .
