Career

The American began his career in 1989 in the high school team of the Cushing Academy Penguins and then went from 1991 to 1992 for the ice hockey team at Boston University in the National Collegiate Athletic Association on the ice. The right winger was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1990 in the seventh round at a total of 140th position by the Winnipeg Jets , for which he never ran. For the 1992/93 season, Lilley was active for the Seattle Thunderbirds in the Western Hockey League and scored a total of 54 scorer points for the team in 50 games. On March 9, 1994, he signed as a free agent a contract with the newly formed NHL - Franchise Mighty Ducks of Anaheim , where he remained until the end of the 1993/94 season completed a total of 13 games and scored seven points. He was also on their farm team , the San Diego Gulls , in the International Hockey League . At the Ducks, however, he could never prevail, as the Californians in his position with Todd Ewen , Patrik Carnbäck , Peter Douris and Joe Sacco had several players who were among the regulars in Anaheim .

Most of the following season, Lilley spent with the Gulls and again a year later he was on the ice for the Baltimore Bandits and Los Angeles Ice Dogs . After he couldn't make the leap into the National Hockey League, he played for various teams from the American Hockey League and the International Hockey League and played one game each as a player for the Detroit Vipers and Rochester Americans . In the 1996/97 season he was mainly active for the Providence Bruins . He reached a total of 38 points in 73 games and received 154 penalty minutes. In the summer of 1997, Lilley decided to leave the United States and move to Germany. Shortly thereafter, the Düsseldorfer EG took him under contract, in which he completed 44 games in the German Ice Hockey League , scored 23 points and received 120 penalty minutes. In the following year he was in action with the Kassel Huskies and played 18 games. In the same season he changed clubs and joined the SERC Wild Wings . There he set his career record in the 1999/2000 season with 172 penalty minutes in 48 games.

He then returned to his homeland and signed with the Long Beach Ice Dogs , for which he was active in the West Coast Hockey League . Lilley stood out there mainly because of his points yield and his collected penalty minutes. In a total of 126 games for the Ice Dogs, he scored 105 points and sat in the penalty box for 361 minutes. After his contract expired in the summer of 2002, he ended his active career.
