Patrik Carnbäck (born February 1, 1968 in Gothenburg ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player ( striker ).
Career
Patrik Carnbäck's first career station at the age of eight was IFK Bäcken , a suburb club from Gothenburg. In 1986 he moved to Västra Frölunda . There the left-firing winger played until 1992 in the first-class Elitserien or HockeyAllsvenskan , the second highest Swedish league. In his first year in the Elitserien in 1989/90, Carnbäck took second place in the scorer ranking (54 points) and was voted the best newcomer in the league before Mats Sundin . In the 1988 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in 125th place by the Montreal Canadiens . In 1992 he decided to move to North America and accepted an offer from the Canadiens. For a year, however, he played almost exclusively for their farm team Fredericton Canadiens in the American Hockey League . For the 1993/94 season he was transferred to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim , for which Carnbäck played in the National Hockey League for almost three years . Shortly before the end of the 1995/96 season , he moved to Germany to the Kölner Haien , where he also played the following season . In 1997 he returned to his hometown club Västra Frölunda and played there until he ended his career after winning the championship in 2003.
International
Especially at the beginning of his career, Carnbäck was a permanent member of the Swedish national team . After he had played some tournaments for the junior selection teams in his youth, he first took part in major tournaments with the senior team in 1992. At the Olympic Winter Games he finished fifth with the Tre Kronors , but shortly afterwards he won the world title . In the final against Finland he was named the best player. In the title fights in 1994 he won the bronze medal with the team before he was no longer considered in the episode.
