Denny Lambert (born January 9, 1970 in Wawa , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and current coach who played for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim , Ottawa Senators , Nashville Predators and Atlanta Thrashers during his active career in the National Hockey League . Lambert became known as an enforcer during his career .

Player career

The Canadian began his career as a teenager with the Sault Ste. Marie Legion and Sault Ste. Marie Thunderbirds, where he was active in the Northern Ontario Hockey Association . He then went three years in the Ontario Hockey League for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on the ice. In 1991 Lambert joined the San Diego Gulls and completed a total of 74 games in the International Hockey League in the 1991/92 season , scoring 31 points and receiving 229 penalty minutes. In the following season, the left winger was mostly in action with the Gulls and also played five games for the St. Thomas Wildcats from the Colonial Hockey League .

In August 1993 he signed, without ever having been selected in an NHL Entry Draft , as a free agent a contract with the newly formed NHL franchise the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim . However, Lambert spent the following two years in the IHL with the San Diego Gulls and returned to Anaheim in 1995 to gain his first experience in the National Hockey League in the 1994/95 season . The following year he played mostly with the Baltimore Bandits in the American Hockey League , but received regular assignments with the Ducks and then finally made the jump into the NHL team.

After his contract with the Californians was not renewed, he signed in July 1996 - again as a free agent - a contract with the Ottawa Senators . There he immediately established himself as a regular player and completed a total of 169 games for the Senators in two years. At the NHL Expansion Draft in 1998 he was selected from the newly founded franchise of the Nashville Predators and played a total of 76 games for the team from Tennessee in the 1998/99 season , in which he scored 16 points. On August 16, 1999, these gave him in a transfer to the Atlanta Thrashers , in exchange Randy Robitaille went to the Predators. After Lambert was one of the regulars with the Thrashers, he was transferred to Anaheim on July 2, 2001 in an exchange deal. At the Ducks he was able to fight for a regular place, but his contract was not extended after only one season. As a clubless player, he moved to the Milwaukee Admirals in the American Hockey League in January 2003 and let his active career end there.

Coaching career

On July 11, 2003, Lambert announced the end of his career as an active player, at the same time he was appointed assistant coach at Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds appointed. In the following five years he was active in this position and worked together with head coach Craig Hartsburg , among others . After Hartsburg took over the Ottawa Senators in June 2008, Lambert was appointed head coach of Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds appointed. After the 2008/09 season ended with 19 wins and 45 losses, he was able to have a positive balance for the first time in the following season with 36 wins and 27 losses.
