Allan James Bester (born March 26, 1964 in Hamilton , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who played for the Toronto Maple Leafs , Detroit Red Wings and Dallas Stars in the National Hockey League from 1983 to 1996 .

Career

Allan Bester began his career as a hockey goalkeeper with the Brantford Alexanders from the Ontario Hockey League , for which he was active from 1981 to 1984. During this time he was selected during the NHL Entry Draft 1983 in the third round as a total of 48th player by the Toronto Maple Leafs , for which he was in goal for a total of eight years. On March 5, 1991 Bester was given to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for their six- round voting rights in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft . In the two years that Bester was under contract in Detroit from 1991 to 1993, he was mainly on the ice for their farm team from the American Hockey League , the Adirondack Red Wings .

From 1993 to 1995 was the best goalkeeper of the San Diego Gulls from the International Hockey League , before he was signed by their league rivals, the Orlando Solar Bears . During his first season in Orlando Bester was taken on January 21, 1996 for ten games as a free agent by the Dallas Stars under contract, so that he played for the first time in four years back in the National Hockey League . He then returned to the Solar Bears, where he ended his career in 1998.
