Thomas Emilio "Tom" Poti (born March 22, 1977 in Worcester , Massachusetts ) is a former American ice hockey player who played 875 games for the Edmonton Oilers , New York Rangers , New York Islanders between 1996 and 2013 and Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League on the position of the defender has denied. Poti celebrated his greatest sporting success by winning the silver medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City .
Career

Poti played for Boston University in the National Collegiate Athletic Association during his junior years . In the 1996 NHL Entry Draft , the Edmonton Oilers secured the rights to him when they selected him in the third round as 59th.
With the beginning of the 1998/99 season , the defender played for the Oilers, where he immediately received a regular place. At the end of the season he was elected to the NHL All-Rookie Team . However, towards the end of the 2001/02 season , Poti had to leave the Edmonton team. The Oilers signed Mike York from the New York Rangers , who received Poti and Rem Murray in return . In the service of the Rangers, the defender had a successful first year, in which he set up a career high of 48 points scorer . For the 2006/07 season he moved as a free agent to local rivals, the New York Islanders , where he only played one season.
In the summer of 2007 he signed a contract with the Washington Capitals , to which he remained loyal until the summer of 2013. Persistent injuries between 2010 and 2013 meant that Poti only played 37 games in the period over three years. On May 1, 2014, at the age of 37, he finally announced the official end of his career after he had not found a new employer since summer 2013.
International
For his home country, Poti played in the junior division at the Junior World Championships in 1996 and 1997 . He won the silver medal in 1997. For the men's selection of the US boys, the defender was on the ice at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City . There he won the silver medal with the team after a final defeat against Canada .
