Raymond Joseph "Rem" Murray (born October 9, 1972 in Stratford , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player who played 612 games for the Edmonton Oilers , New York Rangers and Nashville Predators in the National during his active career between 1991 and 2012 Hockey League on the position of the center .
Career
Murray first played between 1989 and 1991 in his hometown with the Stratford Cullitons, a lower-class junior team. In the summer of 1991, the attacker enrolled at Michigan State University , where he spent the next four years in parallel for the university's ice hockey team in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . During this time he was selected in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft in the sixth round in 135th place by the Los Angeles Kings from the National Hockey League .
Since the Kings did not sign the Canadian even after completing his studies until the summer of 1995, he joined the Edmonton Oilers as a free agent . There he came in the course of the 1995/96 season exclusively in the farm team , the Cape Breton Oilers , in the American Hockey League for use. At the beginning of the 1996/97 season he finally made the jump into Edmonton's NHL squad. To their squad he belonged into the 2001/02 season before he was transferred to the New York Rangers in March 2002 together with Tom Poti . In return, the Oilers received Mike York and a four-round vote in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft . For the Rangers, Murray completed only 43 games until mid-December 2002 before he was given to the Nashville Predators . The Rangers brought goalkeeper Mike Dunham from the Nashville Predators to New York in exchange for Murray, Tomáš Klouček and Marek Židlický . At the Predators, the striker was part of the squad until the 2003/04 season . A neck injury suffered in January 2004 forced him to take a longer break, which ultimately led to the fact that he did not play ice hockey for the entire 2004/05 season.
Without a contract, Murray moved to the 2005/06 season for the Houston Eros in the AHL. Shortly before the end of the regular season , however, he was signed by his ex-team from Edmonton, with whom he reached the final of the Stanley Cup . After the season he moved to Europe. There he played for two years until the summer of 2008 for the Finnish capital club HIFK Helsinki in the SM-liiga . Then he was drawn to HC Innsbruck from the Austrian Erste Bank Ice Hockey League and HC Pustertal from the Italian A1 series for one year . In the summer of 2010 Murray returned to Innsbruck after the club had since been relegated to the National League. In his second and final year, the Canadian was the top goalscorer and second-best scorer in the league, making a significant contribution to winning the championship and being promoted back to the EBEL. After the season, he retired at the age of 39.
International
Murray played for his home country at the 2001 World Cup in Germany . The Canadians finished the tournament in fifth place and thus outside the medal ranks. Murray himself contributed four scorer points in seven missions, including one goal.
