The Kupferberg nature reserve is a 15.27  hectare nature reserve south of Letmathe in the urban area of Iserlohn in the Märkisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia . The NSG was designated in 1997 by the district council of the Märkisches Kreis with the landscape plan No. 4 Iserlohn . The nature reserve Steinbruch Helmke to the west is partly only separated from the NSG by a path.

Area description

The NSG is the former Kupferberg quarry . In the quarry there are semi-arid lawns, ruderal fields , small bodies of water and heaps. Reptiles ( reptilia ) and amphibians ( Amphibia ) occur in the NSG. There is also a small lake in the quarry, popularly known as the Silbersee .

Protection purpose

The nature reserve was designated for the preservation and development of a former quarry and as a habitat for endangered animal and plant species. As with other nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area became a nature reserve “because of its scenic beauty and uniqueness”.
