The NSG was designated in 1997 by the district council of the Märkisches Kreis with the landscape plan No. 4 Iserlohn . The NSG goes as far as the city limits of Hagen and borders here on the 56.4 hectare nature reserve Henkhauser- und Hasselbachtal, which lies in the Hagen city area . The NSG consists of two areas.

Area description

The NSG is the Hasselbachtal with deciduous forest.

Protection purpose

The nature reserve was designated for the preservation and development of the Hasselbachtal with forest and as a habitat for endangered animal and plant species. As with other nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area became a nature reserve “because of its scenic beauty and uniqueness”.
