Ruhr-Altwasser nature reserve
The Ruhr-Altwasser nature reserve is a 0.18 ha nature reserve north of Gerkendahl Castle in the city of Iserlohn in the Märkisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia . The NSG was designated in 1997 by the district council of the Märkisches Kreis with the landscape plan No. 4 Iserlohn . The NSG goes to the city limits of Menden .
Area description
The NSG is an old arm of the Ruhr .
Protection purpose
The nature reserve was designated for the preservation and development of an old arm of the Ruhr and as a habitat for endangered animal and plant species. As with other nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area became a nature reserve “because of its scenic beauty and uniqueness”.
