Abbabach nature reserve (Iserlohn)

The Abbabach nature reserve is a 62.2  hectare nature reserve (NSG) on the eastern city limits of Iserlohn in the Märkisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia . The area was designated as a NSG in 1995. The NSG borders directly on the western city limits and on the nature reserve of the same name in the city of Menden (Sauerland) . The NSG consists of three areas. Part of the NSG belongs to the fauna-flora-habitat area of the same name (DE-4512-302) with an area of ​​24 hectares.

Area description

The NSG is the Abbabach and its tributaries with wooded floodplains used as grassland . The Abbabach is predominantly strongly meandering. The stream has near-natural flowing water sections with well-developed, submerged vegetation, gravel banks, pools, bank breaks and steep walls and smaller alluvial forest areas. In the floodplain there are alder, ash and softwood floodplain forests that accompany the stream, as well as other riparian wood. In grassland there are tall herbaceous vegetation, fallow grassland, wet and humid grassland, as well as standing water.

Kingfisher and crested newt are found in the NSG .
