Nature reserve The Emst

The nature reserve The Emst is a 4.48  ha large nature reserve (NSG) in the city of Iserlohn in the Mark Brandenburg district in North Rhine-Westphalia . The NSG was designated in 1997 by the district council of the Märkisches Kreis with the landscape plan No. 4 Iserlohn . The Sonderhorst nature reserve is only 100 m to the west. The NSG consists of two sub-areas ( here and here ).

Area description

The NSG is a beech forest and semi-arid grassland. Part of the NSG is planted with former coppice forest .

Protection purpose

The nature reserve was designated for the preservation and development of a forest and as a habitat for endangered animal and plant species. As with other nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area became a nature reserve “because of its scenic beauty and uniqueness”.
