NGC 5136 = IC 888 is an elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E1 in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 296 million light years from the Milky Way and about 60,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 5115 , NGC 5129 , NGC 5132 , NGC 5137 .

The object was discovered on April 12, 1784 by William Herschel ( listed as NGC ) and on May 3, 1889 by Lewis Swift (listed as IC ).
