NGC 5157 is a 13.4 mag barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBa in the constellation of the Hounds , located about 329 million light years from the Milky Way.
It was discovered on March 20, 1787 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "vF, S".
