NGC 5182 is a 12.4 mag barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBbc in the constellation of the Water Snake , about 189 million light years away from the Milky Way.
It was discovered on May 13, 1834 by John Herschel with an 18-inch reflector telescope, which during two observations "vF, pL, R, 50 arcseconds, has a star 7th mag Nf distance = 10 ′" and "vF, pL, lE, a vL star follows approx 12 ′ ”noted.
