NGC 5165 is a 13.9 likes bright lenticular galaxy of Hubble type "S0" in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 307 million light years from the Milky Way and about 70,000 light years in diameter.
The galaxies NGC 5162 , NGC 5171 , NGC 5178 , NGC 5179 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on May 5, 1883 by Ernst Wilhelm Leberecht Tempel .
