IC 872 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sab in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 307 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 85,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky is the galaxy NGC 5060 .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on April 28, 1891 .
