IC 889 is a compact galaxy of Hubble type E0 in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 619 million light years from the Milky Way and about 55,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 5165 , NGC 5171 , NGC 5176 , NGC 5177 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on May 14, 1892 .
