IC 892 is a lens-shaped galaxy of the Hubble type S0 with an active galaxy core in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 277 million light years from the Milky Way and about 120,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 5192 , NGC 5197 , NGC 5202 , IC 893 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on July 4, 1893 .
