IC 891 is an elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 286 million light years from the Milky Way and about 40,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on June 8, 1893 .
