IC 898 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type S in the constellation Virgo to the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 579 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 100,000 light-years across .

The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on May 24, 1892 .
