NGC 5120 is an open star cluster listed under the name Ruprecht 166 in the constellation Centaur with an angular extent of about 4 ′ by 3 ′ and an apparent magnitude in the B-band of about 13. It was discovered on June 16, 1835 by John Herschel with an 18 -Inch reflector telescope discovered, which it with "cluster class VI; oval; 4 ′ long, 3 ′ broad; stars 12..16th mag; an extremely rich clustering patch in the milky way, which is here superb ”.
