NGC 5098 is one with PGC 46529 interacting elliptical galaxy from the Hubble type E0 in the constellation hunting dogs on the northern sky . It is estimated to be 505 million light years from the Milky Way and about 100,000 light years in diameter.

In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 5096 , IC 883 , IC 4227 .

The object was discovered on April 29, 1827 by John Herschel , who noted "faint, small, between two stars, the north-following of two". The second object mentioned is NGC 5096 .
