NGC 5089 is a 13.5 mag bright bar-spiral galaxy with pronounced emission lines of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Haar der Berenike in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 97 million light years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered on March 13, 1785 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as “F., pS.” (“Faint, pretty small”).
