IC 4227 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type S in the constellation Hounds in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 311 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 35,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 5074 , NGC 5127 , IC 4225 , IC 4226 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on June 30, 1896 .
