IC 4239 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 / a in the constellation Hounds in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 649 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 155,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 5131 , IC 4238 , IC 4240 , IC 4242 .
The Type Ia supernova SN 2006cq was observed here.
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on June 30, 1896 .
