IC 4238 is a lenticular galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Hounds in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 300 million light-years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 70,000 ly. 
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 5131 , IC 4239 , IC 4240 , IC 4242 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on May 20, 1903 .
