IC 4231 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sbc in the constellation Hydra south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 95 million light years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light years in diameter. Together with nine other galaxies, it forms the NGC 5061 group ( LGG 341 ).
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies IC 4232 , IC 4245 , IC 4246 .
The object was discovered by Royal Harwood Frost on May 4, 1904 .
