NGC 5033 is a spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type Sc in the constellation Hounds in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 41 million light years from the Milky Way and about 125,000 ly in diameter. The galaxy has an active galactic core with a supermassive black hole . Together with NGC 5005 , it forms a pair that weakly influences each other .
The galaxies NGC 5002 , NGC 5014 , IC 4213 are located in the same area of the sky .

The supernovae SN 1950C , SN 1985L (Type-IIL) and SN 2001gd (Type-IIb) were observed here.

The object was discovered on May 1, 1785 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
