NGC 5000 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble-type SBbc in the constellation Haar der Berenike in the northern sky . It is around 251 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 125,000 light years. Together with LEDA 214077 it forms the gravitationally bound galaxy pair HOLM 510 and is considered a member of the Coma galaxy cluster Abell 1656 .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4971 , NGC 4983 , NGC 5004 , IC 4210 .
The Type Ic supernova SN 2003EL was observed here.
The object was discovered on April 11, 1785 by William Herschel .
