Heinrich Anton Föppel

Heinrich Anton Föppel (* 1798 in Rosenberg , Principality of Löwenstein-Wertheim, † May 1866 in Kassel ) was a German opera singer ( baritone , bass ) and singing teacher .

Life

Föppel studied bass with music director Lump in Rastatt and singing with Müller in Wertheim. He made his first public appearance in 1819 as "Raphael" in Haydn's Creation .

He made his stage debut as “Sarastro” in The Magic Flute in 1820 at the Mannheim Court Theater. In 1821 he became the first bass player at the Freiburg im Breisgau theater due to lack of employment. After further stints in Cologne, Düsseldorf and Bremen, Louis Spohr and Karl Feige brought him to the court theater in Kassel. In 1825 he made his debut there in the leading role in the world premiere of Spohr's opera Der Berggeist .

Föppel stayed in Kassel and after his retirement on September 1st, 1859 he still worked as a singing teacher .

He was married to the actress Friederike Schilling since 1823 .
