NGC 4975 is a 13.9 mag bright lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type "S0" in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 229 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 75,000 light-years across.

In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4941 , NGC 4989 , NGC 4990 , IC 855 .

The supernova SN 1968aa was observed here.

The object was discovered on February 19, 1830 by John Herschel , who described it as "very faint, very small, round, pretty suddenly brighter in the middle".
