NGC 4957 is a 13.0 likes bright elliptical galaxy with extensive star formation from Hubble type E3 in the constellation Coma Berenices the northern sky . It is an estimated 310 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 110,000 ly. The galaxy is considered a member of the Coma galaxy cluster .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4934 , NGC 4943 , NGC 4960 , IC 4133 .
The object was discovered on April 11, 1785 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "F, S".
