NGC 4678 (= IC 824) is a double galaxy in which the two individual objects NGC 4678-1 and NGC 4678-2 are distinguished. NGC 4678-1 is a 14.3 likes bright spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sc; NGC 4678-2 is also a galaxy with an apparent magnitude of 14.3 mag and of the Hubble type S ?. The twin galaxy is located in the constellation Virgo and is approximately 59 million light years from the Milky Way.

It was discovered by Francis Preserved Leavenworth in 1886 and rediscovered on May 15, 1893 by Stéphane Javelle (IC 824).
