IC 796 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Coma Berenices in the northern sky . It is an estimated 68 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 30,000 ly. The galaxy is listed as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster under catalog number VCC 1188 . In the same area of ​​the sky are the galaxies NGC 4489 , NGC 4498 , NGC 4502 , IC 792 .

The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on April 25, 1892 .
