NGC 4198 = IC 778 is a lenticular galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Great Bear in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 421 million light years from the Milky Way and about 125,000 light years across .
The galaxy NGC 4172 is located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on April 14, 1789 .
