NGC 4222 is a spiral dwarf galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble-type Scd in the constellation Coma Berenices in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 75 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 65,000 ly. Under catalog number VCC 131 belongs to the Virgo galaxy cluster .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4216 , IC 771 , IC 3066 , IC 3108 .
The object was discovered on April 8, 1784 by the astronomer William Herschel .
