NGC 4232 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBb in the constellation Hounds in the northern sky . It is an estimated 327 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 125,000 light-years across. Together with NGC 4231 , it forms the gravitationally bound galaxy pair Holm 356 .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4217 , NGC 4220 , NGC 4226 , NGC 4248 .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on March 9, 1788 .
