NGC 4244 is a spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type Sc in the constellation Hounds north of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 12 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 55,000 light years in diameter.
The property is a member of the Canes Venatici I group , the closest neighbor of the local group to which u. a. M 94 , M 106 , NGC 4214 , NGC 4395, and NGC 4449 belong.
The object was discovered on March 17, 1787 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
