NGC 4234 is a bar-spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type SBm in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 87 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 30,000 ly. It is listed as part of the Virgo galaxy cluster under catalog number VCC 221 .
The object was discovered on April 7, 1828 by John Herschel .
