NGC 4247 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBab / P in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 168 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 40,000 ly. The galaxy is listed under catalog number VCC 265 as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster . Together with NGC 4235 and NGC 4246 , it forms the galaxy trio Holm 359 .
The galaxies NGC 4223 , NGC 4224 , NGC 4233 , NGC 4241 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by George Searle on February 25, 1868 .
