NGC 4270 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 100 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 60,000 ly. The galaxy is listed under catalog number VVC 375 as part of the Virgo galaxy cluster .
Together with NGC 4259 , NGC 4268 , NGC 4273 , NGC 4277 , NGC 4281 and IC 3153 , it forms the galaxy group Holm 368 .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on April 17, 1786 .
