NGC 4283 is an elliptical dwarf galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Coma Berenices in the northern sky . It is an estimated 47 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 20,000 light years across. With NGC 4278 it forms the (optical?) Galaxy pair Holm 369 and together with 17 other galaxies they form the NGC 4274 group ( LGG 279 ).
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4274 , NGC 4278 , NGC 4286 , NGC 4310 .
The object was discovered on March 13, 1785 by the astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
